of 2010 Valedictorian Molly Smith with Principal Brent Woodard. Molly
also received scholarships from the Agua Dulce Women's Club and the
Lions Club; she was named US Army Scholar-Athlete and Congressman
Buck McKeon Best
American Citizen;
she was recognized by her teachers with the top awards
in Math,
Physics, and AP Spanish; and she received prestigious awards in
scholastic excellence from the California Scholarship Federation and
the US
Marine Corps.
Molly will be attending Cornell University. Two students with equally strong GPAs were
recognized as Salutatorians in 2010: Nick Loporchio and US
Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete award Karisa
Wymer. Nick and Karisa also received scholarships from the Acton
Women's Club. Nick's other awards include the US
Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete award and the VHS Service Award. and
Math Award. He was named Male Athlete of the Year and will be attending
UCLA. Karisa received the VHS Spirit
Award and will be attending UC Davis.

year, Draw/Paint
teacher Taiz Carnewal-Nadjarians approached PTSO with a proposal for an
advanced art project. Each student painted a portrait of a favorite
teacher in their own style. These beautiful portraits will soon grace
the walls of the permanent VHS campus. The project will be continued
each year until all our teachers are bona fide wall art. PTSO funds the
framing.

The PTSO-hosted Carnival allows CA students a full range of restaurant experience, including food preparation, customer service, and cashiering. And they raise a bunch of money for the Culinary Arts program too! Academic Decathlon team, coached by English 10 teacher Kari Owens,
brought home a number of medals in this highly prestigious event. PTSO
has provided funding for the decathlon curriculum materials and entry
fees. The team brought home eleven individual medals, in addition to

Lynn Becker)The 55th Fall Carnival Held annually on the VHS campus, the carnival includes games, raffle prizes, a haunted house, culinary arts cuisine, and a spectacular cake auction. One of our biggest fundraisers is Black Out Bingo, which nets some lucky supporter $2500! (A second round of Black Out Bingo happens again in Spring. Don't forget to reserve your lucky number early!) The highest bidder for our cake auction was school board member Mark Distaso (below).
