PTSO Supports the Arts
Last year, Draw/Paint teacher Taiz Carnewal-Nadjarians approached PTSO with a proposal for an advanced art project. Each student painted a portrait of a favorite teacher in their own style. These beautiful portraits will soon grace the walls of the permanent VHS campus. The project will be continued each year until all our teachers are bona fide wall art. PTSO funds the framing.

Mr. Austin by Ashley Smith;  Mr. Mollico by Tyler Sloan;  Mr. Vasquez by Andrew Hardin; Mrs. Halperin-Barnett by Lindsay Myers; Mrs. Carnewal-Nadjarians by Ashlee Peavy; and Ms Pierson (now Pierson-Straka) by Andrew Carrillo.

PTSO Congratulates Outstanding Students from 2009

Culinary Arts raises much of its own funding by selling the fruits of its labor. The PTSO-hosted Carnival allows CA students a full range of restaurant experience, including food preparation, customer service, and cashiering. And they raise a bunch of money for the Culinary Arts program too!

Principal Brent Woodard (above, far left) and Culinary Arts teacher Wendy Barnes, with C-CAP scholarship winners Travis Parco and Terra Chapman.

Senior high honor roll recipients (left to right, bracketted by Principal Woodard and Dean Tim Jorgensen): Makaila Estrella, Laura Macofsky, Torey Harmon, Danielle Turner, Jennifer Haldeman, Devin Welch, Kristina McClendon, Elaine McPherson, and Alyssa Graham. 2009 Academic Decathlon team, coached by English 10 teacher Kari Owens, brought home a number of medals in this highly prestigious event. PTSO has provided funding for the decathlon curriculum materials and entry fees. The team brought home eleven individual medals, in addition to the Most Improved School Award. The 55th Fall Carnival
Held annually on the VHS campus, the carnival includes games, raffle prizes, a haunted house, culinary arts cuisine, and a spectacular cake auction. One of our biggest fundraisers is Black Out Bingo, which nets some lucky supporter $2500! (A second round of Black Out Bingo happens again in Spring. Don't forget to reserve your lucky number early!)

The highest bidder for our cake auction was school board member Mark Distaso (below). The cake drawing the largest bid was by Karen Gordon.
